Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know how to play Mahjong to attend?

Not at all!  Mimosas and Mahjong is designed for all experience levels.  If you are new to the game, our Mahjong 101 session will walk you through the basics step by step in a relaxed and welcoming environment.  However, if you are a Mahj Maven, you will still find that there is plenty of challenge at the tournament level – and a chance to win some great prizes.

What are the levels of play?

We offer three ways to participate:

Mahjong 101 (Bird Bam Level) – Perfect for beginners with no prior experience

Guided Play (Flower Level) – For “blooming” and intermediate players who know the game, but want support

Tournament Play (Dragon Level) – Competitive play with exciting prizes, including a $1,500 cash grand prize.

You will select your preferred level of play during registration.

What is included with my ticket?

Your ticket includes:

No Mahjong set is required.  Everything you need to play will be provided.  However, if you prefer to bring your own 2026 National Mah Jong League (NMJL) card, you are welcome to do so, but it is not required for beginner or guided play.

If you have an American Mahjong set you are willing to lend for use in the tournament, please email melissaenfinger@tannerfoundation.org.
